Collection SS 2015

In the midst of this teeming, noisy crowd of flats, one refined shoe has quietly become the freshest looking style in the mix: the loafer. It can be masculine and feminine, subversive and conservative, youthful and sophisticated. And with this season’s range of styles, it can do so all at once.
From French accessories designer Pierre Hardy, for instance, comes a penny loafer that’s almost classic but done in bright hues, often colour-blocked and incorporating materials such as suede and ponyskin.
“The loafer is iconic and genuine, like the stiletto or ballet shoe,” says Hardy. It has “the spirit of youth, like sneakers, but gives a very precise boyish silhouette with skinny pants. But of course you can twist them and they become very feminine with gowns.” salvatore ferragamo mens slip ons
If you’re in the market for loafers this season, you can go with a new take from brands such as Hardy’s, Saint Laurent and Proenza Schouler, or a preserved-with-a-wink pair from long-standing loafer labels such as Gucci and Salvatore Ferragamo.
As for how they can fit into your wardrobe, the possibilities are endless. A pair of Lanvin’s high-gloss loafers with oversize tassels gives a tomboyish tilt to one of Burberry’s airy floral dresses. Valentino’s chunky slip-ons with their flash of gold snake-motif hardware would anchor Celine’s thin-knit bell bottoms and skin-tight sweaters, and Manolo Blahnik’s elegant, cocoa-coloured penny loafers might add haute schoolgirl charm to one of Dior’s sporty-elegant lace-up, off-the-shoulder cocktail numbers. salvatore ferragamo
The loafer’s don’t-pin-me-down charm could be attributed to its shadowy past. Two theories advance that the style’s construction was derived, respectively, from Native American moccasins or the bespoke house slippers that English cobbler Wildsmith designed for George VI in the 1930s. American entrepreneur George Henry Bass, whose company introduced the penny loafer in 1936, claimed that his loafer, known as the “Weejun” — a shortened form of “Norwegian”— was inspired by shoes worn by Scandinavian farmers.
